Dove Lake, Cradle Mountain.
Arguably the most popular walk at Cradle Mountain-Lake Clair National Park, the Dove Lake Circuit takes you on a delightful ramble beneath Cradle Mountain and around Dove Lake.
The Boat Shed and lake in the foreground with Cradle Mountain in the background is one of the most popular and well-known photos of the mountain- often shrouded in cloud and fog which adds to the mystery and adventure that is Cradle Mountain.
The weather is usually clearer in Summer, so you are more likely to be able to get a good view of the mountain, but there is nothing quite like a snow-covered Cradle.
In the Autumn, the deciduous beech trees turn orange, and the whole area is alight with tiny flame-coloured leaves which is truly a beautiful sight. No matter the season, Cradle Mountain offers its guests a special visit and memories to cherish.
Approximately 6km around the lake, this will take you about 2-3 hours. Some of the track has a boardwalk, but there are quite a few steps, steep parts and rough sections so make sure your feet are appropriately clad! The rugged mountain makes you feel as though you are exploring the wilds, but with the comfort of a well-maintained track.
Devonport is centred on the North West Coast of Tasmania, and a scenic 90-minute self-drive from the national park. With its bountiful cafes and restaurants featuring local produce, the seaside town offers a stark contrast from Cradle Mountain and is the ideal base while you explore Tasmania’s stunning North West.
